In Memory Of Lynn

On July 16, 2013, Lynn Ellington got one of the biggest thrills of her life - accompanying the color guard on the field at Cessna Stadium for Drums Across Kansas 2013. Wearing a band uniform courtesy of Kenny Fruhauf, Fruhauf Uniforms, Lynn - an individual with intellectual disabilities served at Starkey - proudly made her way across the field, forgetting for a moment about the health challenges she had faced that year, or the rush of nerves she felt when she saw thousands of spectators in the stadium. Lynn was an outstanding representative of Starkey that evening. In her honor, a photograph of her in uniform was enlarged and framed for her room. When Lynn passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2014, that photo was shared as part of a personal display at her funeral service. Thank you, Drums Across Kansas, for helping make 2013 such a special year for Lynn and her family!

What Is Drums Across Kansas?

Drums Across Kansas (DAK) is an organization dedicated to enhancing the arts community of South Central Kansas through the support of the Pageantry Arts. The centerpiece of our efforts is the annual presentation of the Drums Across Kansas Drum Corps International Tour Event. This event brings the world's top drum and bugle corps to South Central Kansas for an evening of unparalleled spectacle and excellence in youth performance. The proceeds of this event have gone to benefit local charities such as the Performance Arts Foundation, The Starkey Foundation and scholarships to individuals from the area to participate and represent Kansas in the pageantry arts around the nation.
